Hello and welcome to my auction for the sale of my Toyota Celica GT-Four / ST185 1991. It is a Japanese import and has had 2 UK owners, one of them being yours truly. It was imported by Car-Imports-Direct in Bristol. I bought it just over 8 years ago from a very hospitable gentleman in Gloucester. It had been sat in his garage for a year or so but was in more or less mint standard condition, apart from a bespoke stainless steel exhaust system and TEIN coil-overs. Apparently, it was a weekend car in Japan and was never driven in the rain. Luckily for me, the car came with some rather rare Enkei circular lightweight alloy wheels. I bought the car and used it as a daily driver for about a couple of years. I then decided to get serious and modify it. So, I made a big list of what I wanted to do and got cracking. The list was basically a major engine rebuild with new suspension. I took the engine out and stripped it down completely. Every part was inspected and most parts were replaced or re-conditioned. The rebuild was done @ 114.250 miles. It has covered 29.000 miles since then and has never missed a beat. 3S-GTE 2.0/16v Rebuild Engine spec: New Toyota big ends New Toyota shells New Toyota bearings New Toyota oil pump New Toyota water pump New Toyota head bolts New 1.2mm metal head gasket New Toyota rocker cover gasket New Exedy clutch + fly wheel New HKS thermostat Golpher aluminium Radiator New Forge actuator Reconditioned Toyota CT26 ST205 Turbo (AKA CT20) With 360 thrust bearings and a metal hot side impeller. Reconditioned by Essex Turbo. Greddy-profec-2 boost controller (set @ 16 -16.5 psi) New Magnecor HT leads New Toyo sport Evo-style front mount Intercooler New induction/air-filter Straight intake with cold air feed New Larger inlet throttle body adapter Ported and polished inlet manifold Ported and polished exhaust manifold XS power down pipe (much lighter than the original DP) Blitz Nur-spec Exhaust system Throttle cable from the ST182 ( much shorter and neater ) New belts all round De-coked head De-coked block Air-con removed with all related pipes and radiators (to reduce weight) ECU Early ST185 GT-Fours like mine had an ECU that didn’t allow the turbo to boost over 1bar or 14.5 psi. My four doesn’t have an FCD (fuel cut defender) but it can boost to 17.4 psi before it gets fuel cut. This means this particular GT-Four does not have the original ECU as only later GT-fours i.e. 93/94 including Carlos Sainz/ RC models, had ECUs that allowed the engine to boost that high. The map on the later ECUs is slightly better too. Suspension On purchasing the car it had TEIN super street coilovers. They gave up after a while and looked pretty old and sorry for themselves so I got another set of TEINS. These gave up after 4 years. Unimpressed, I decided to overhaul everything. All suspension components mentioned have only covered a few hundred miles. Suspension Spec: New BC Street coilovers (lowered to a reasonable height i.e. you can get over speed bumps)New Suplerflex bushesNew Whiteline adjustable rear suspension mountsNew Toyota CV jointsNew Toyota track-rod endsNew Toyota drop-links New Toyota CV boot gators front + rear Braking system Anyone who has owned an ST185 will know how woefully crap the brakes are. So, with all the extra power the car is chucking out, new bigger brakes were needed. All components mentioned have covered a couple of thousand miles. Brake spec: Reconditioned ST205 callipers/front and rearNew Toyota pistons/front and rearNew Toyota rubber seals/front and rearNew pads/front and rearNew Toyota Larger Discs/front and rearNew Toyota hand-brake shoes (only covered 100 miles roughly) Wheels and spacers As already stated, 17” Enkei circular lightweight wheels and each rear corner has 30mm Eibach hub-centric spacers to fill out the rear arches and 10mm Eibach hub-centric spacers on the front to clear the larger front callipers. Rear arches have been rolled properly. It also has 4 brand spanking new Falken tyres. Interior The original lumbar front electric seats were comfortable and worked very well. But they were pretty heavy and I wanted some weight loss. Interior modifications: Momo Steering wheelTRD Gear knobRecaro lightweight racing seatsBespoke runners The Recaros are brilliant, comfortable and much lighter than the Lumbars. Exterior This car is now 23 years old. It’s in good condition, not for its age, it’s just in good condition. It has practically no stone chips, one or two minor light scratches that cannot be seen easily and it does have one or two pin dents which again, cannot be seen unless they’re pointed out. It has no rust and has been wax-oiled numerous times in my ownership. It has been a very well looked after car. The car generally is of a standard JDM appearance but there are some subtle changes. ST182 bonnet. Why? Firstly, the original bonnet would bounce around a lot @ motorway speeds because the scoop being redundant thanks to the FMIC, would gulp loads of air making the whole thing wobble about. Secondly, I wanted a more stealthy look (if that’s possible with such a car) so I opted to go for a 182 bonnet. Roof spoiler. RC front bumper. Much lighter than the standard ST185 bumper. ICE This is the bad bit. Yes, it does have a stereo. It has a double din Kenwood all singing and dancing with a digital equalizer. The bad bit is that the sound cuts in and out. When I bought the car, it had a 750W amp with a Kenwood subwoofer which really thumped out the tunes. But in my quest to lighten the car, out they came and since then the sound has been intermittent. I obviously disturbed something. I still have the amp and sub to which you’re welcome to. I know nothing about electrics. All the wiring and plugs are there. Conclusion I have an educated idea of what kind of power my four is kicking out but it has never been on a dyno. It has never been my goal to chase numbers but to create a weekend car that was fast, fun, reliable and handled well. I have achieved this goal. It handles and corners like a house fly, it grips like a barnacle and has a ferocious pace with bags of torque. I have had the four on a weigh bridge and it weighed in @ 1420k and that was before the Recaros and air-con removal with the spare wheel in the back. My guess is it’s now a sub 1400k turbo charged 4-wheel-drive car. Make no mistake, it is a formidable road weapon and a proper B-road blaster. I can guarantee that anyone who comes and sees this four and drives it, will have no doubt that it really does mean business. It has a full service history that goes all the way back to its time in Japan. I have the original import documents/paper work and Toyota handbooks. I have receipts for things bought brand new and not for those bought second hand. I have spent a lot of time and especially a lot of money on this car. As you can see from the pictures, it's a nice example. The price reflects this. The car comes with a carbon composite boot lid that I never got round to putting on. I am open to offers, sensible offers. I am willing to negotiate butNO PX. Contact me on [email protected] has a fresh MOT and taxed until Jan 2015. I reserve the right to end the auction early. The car is advertised elsewhere. If there is a winning bidder, it’s cash on collection.Good luck and happy bidding.
